Hull and deck plate procurement for shipyards and repair yards

Organize plate purchasing around the approved bill of materials, fabrication sequence and traceability plan. Grade availability and certificate scope must be confirmed for each project.

New construction

Group requirements by grade, thickness, class society and delivery condition. Coordinate nesting with structural joints and approved drawing revisions. Define test and survey points before mill production so documentation does not become a late delivery constraint.

Repair and renewal

Use survey findings and approved renewal drawings to define replacement material. Record remaining thickness, affected detail and class acceptance. Do not infer the original grade from paint colour or a hardness measurement on an unidentified insert.

Handover

A complete package ties each delivered plate or blank to the heat, certificate and inspection records. Retain the cutting map for parts produced from mother plates. Request a project-specific offer with quantities, destination and required date rather than assuming published reference ranges are stock.

Information to record

  • Exact product standard and edition; approved drawing or specification revision.
  • Grade, dimensions, final condition and heat-to-piece traceability.
  • Acceptance test, inspection document and responsible approving party.
