Before the order
Confirm the mill’s approval for the product form, grade, thickness and delivery route. Agree survey notification points, inspection plan and certificate language. The named class society must match the vessel or project requirement.
During production
Maintain the heat-to-plate trail and complete specified chemistry, tensile and impact tests. Survey attendance and document endorsement depend on the applicable rules and agreed certification scheme. Do not infer certification from a supplier logo list.
Before dispatch
Check plate markings, heat numbers, quantities and test results against the plate list and certificate. Verify certificate authenticity through the issuer’s supported channel. Additional ABS, CCS, DNV, LR, BV or RINA certification is a project request until the actual document is accepted.
Information to record
- Exact product standard and edition; approved drawing or specification revision.
- Grade, dimensions, final condition and heat-to-piece traceability.
- Acceptance test, inspection document and responsible approving party.
Frequently asked questions
Are ABS and DNV certificates interchangeable?
Not automatically. Acceptance is determined by the receiving society and project requirements, even when grades appear comparable.
