From heat to plate
Steel chemistry and deoxidation are controlled at the heat stage. Slab identity must remain traceable through reheating, rolling and any specified heat treatment. Controlled rolling and cooling schedules are part of the approved manufacturing route.
Production controls
Record heat analysis, rolling and heat-treatment batches, plate dimensions and test-unit grouping. Plan sample locations and destructive tests before cutting or subdividing the parent plate. A cut piece should retain a documented link to its parent certificate.
Release package
The delivery package should connect the order, plate list, test results, dimensional inspection and class documents. Nonconforming material needs identified segregation and an approved disposition. Mill capability statements do not substitute for the actual heat and plate records.
Information to record
- Exact product standard and edition; approved drawing or specification revision.
- Grade, dimensions, final condition and heat-to-piece traceability.
- Acceptance test, inspection document and responsible approving party.
Frequently asked questions
Does rolling alone make plate suitable for class hull construction?
No. Material grade, approved production route, testing, traceability and the required certification must all comply.
