Pressure vessel plate for marine auxiliary equipment

Pressure equipment uses its own design code and material rules. A shipbuilding plate certificate does not automatically qualify material for a boiler or pressure vessel.

Define the equipment

Record design pressure, design temperature, minimum design metal temperature, service medium and governing code. Material approval may depend on elevated-temperature properties, toughness, heat treatment and supplementary examination.

Read grade and condition together

P235GH, P265GH, P295GH and P355GH belong to an EN pressure-purpose family; P275NH and P275NL variants have different requirements. ASTM A516, A537 and A724 must be checked under their own adopted specifications. Similar handbook chemistry is not code authorization.

Fabrication release

Review the plate certificate, thickness scope, forming and post-weld treatment plan. If a pressure part is to be classed, coordinate the equipment and material approval requirements. Do not copy hull-steel thickness tolerances or welding temperatures into a pressure-vessel specification.

Information to record

  • Exact product standard and edition; approved drawing or specification revision.
  • Grade, dimensions, final condition and heat-to-piece traceability.
  • Acceptance test, inspection document and responsible approving party.

Frequently asked questions

Can a hull steel certificate serve as a vessel material certificate?

Only if the applicable equipment code and approving authority explicitly accept the material and documentation.
