Specification review
Identify the structural category, design temperature, thickness and required welding performance. Additional fracture, ultrasonic or through-thickness tests may be needed. General references to offshore steel are not sufficient for ordering.
Production and fabrication
Confirm mill approval and dimensional capability for the exact material. Agree welding and forming constraints for the chosen route, particularly where thick restrained joints or high heat input are expected. Coordinate test coupons and document review before cutting.
Delivery evidence
Release only material whose heat and plate identification matches accepted certificates. Retain nonconformance and repair dispositions. Transport, storage and contamination controls should reflect the product and coating specification rather than a generic marine label.
Information to record
- Exact product standard and edition; approved drawing or specification revision.
- Grade, dimensions, final condition and heat-to-piece traceability.
- Acceptance test, inspection document and responsible approving party.
Frequently asked questions
Can any high-strength ship plate serve an offshore wind foundation?
No. The project’s design specification and approval route determine the accepted grade and supplementary requirements.
